This morning, I had the privilege of questioning the Minister of State for Transport on the Government’s plans to spread the benefits of net zero aviation to regional airports across the country.
With the advent of clean air travel and the lasting impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the aviation sector, I pressed the Minister to review the airports national policy statement that was set out in 2018. It was this statement that set out the need for greater airport capacity in the south-east and recommended a north-west runway at Heathrow.
I welcome the Minister’s commitment to spread the opportunity of cleaner, greener travel across all parts of the UK. I also welcome reassurances that this will be looked at in the forthcoming aviation strategy once the jet zero strategy is finalised.
