Parliament continues to operate as usual while the Party seeks to appoint a new leader over the coming weeks. This morning, I chose to press the Government on how they are ensuring that they are using taxpayer’s money efficiently across central Government.
Locally, Hillingdon and Harrow councils have shared with me the process that they follow to ensure that taxpayer money is used responsibly to deliver excellent local services. The savings programmes operated by both local authorities ensure that council tax is mitigated and further investment can be put into vital front line services. I was therefore interested to question the Government on what similar savings programmes are operated across Whitehall and wider Government work.
Responding to my question, the Minister for Government Efficiency, Jacob Rees-Mogg, was quick to assure me that the Cabinet Office is saving billions of pounds across Government through efficiency projects while tackling fraud. I was delighted to hear that this money is being reinvested into Government departments to support a myriad of Government operations and front line services.
