Like many of you, I am pleased that we are now in a position where it has been deemed safe enough to ease Covid-19 restrictions to allow for more outdoor social contact. This means that I am able to get out and about a bit more and felt there was really no better place to start than at some of the wonderful slices of the countryside we have here in Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner. 

Earlier this week, I was delighted to visit Bourne Farm and Whiteheath Farm in Harefield, which are both full of real rural character in contrast to the bustling highstreets across our constituency. Farms contribute so much to our local economy and green spaces. 

Bourne Farm was my first stop, where I was warmly welcomed by owner Suzy. Luckily the weather held up and Suzy was able to give me a tour of the farm and introduce me to the livestock (including horses, rescue donkeys and chickens) and the labradors and corgis. Bourne Farm is a long-standing family farm and it was interesting to hear both its history and plans for the future. 

I then made my way to Whiteheath Farm, where I received another warm welcome from the Mitchells. I was advised to put my wellies on for a walk through the milking and pasteurisation process, where I was amazed to hear just how much milk and ice cream is produced for local businesses and beyond, from the 250-strong herd. We also discussed the effects of the pandemic on farming, as well as wider issues of animal welfare. 

Both visits were very informative and I am grateful for the time given to showing me around. I look forward to visiting again soon.
