It is with the deepest regret we announce that Former Deputy Mayor and Leader of Council, Cllr Chris Mote, sadly passed away late last night after a short illness. Cllr Mote served the Council for 27 years with dedication, humility, and kindness, and will be sorely missed by those fortunate enough to have known him.
He led the Conservative Group on the Council from 2003 until 2008. During his time as Leader, Cllr Mote led the Conservatives to victory in the 2006 Local Elections, the first time the Conservatives had gained control of Harrow Council since 1990. Despite standing down as Leader of the Council and Conservative Group in 2008, Cllr Mote remained committed to public service and continued to share his knowledge with Councillors of all political parties for a further 13 years. Harrow Council will be a lesser place without Cllr Mote’s experience and contributions.
Reacting to the news Conservative Group Leader Cllr Paul Osborn said “I can’t imagine Harrow Council without Chris. He was a true gentleman. He has been there all the time I have been a Councillor, he gave me my first role on the Council and has over the years been an amazing source of wisdom and advice to me and many others from all political parties. I know he will be sorely missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with Janet and his family.”
