This week in Parliament, I was delighted to show my support for World Book Day. On its 25th anniversary, it was a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the past, present and future of children’s reading.
Research has shown that the single biggest impact on a child’s independent reading is whether a parent reads to them, and so inspiring children and families to read together more regularly is fundamental and a key objective of World Book Day.
Importantly, World Book Day also aims to ensure books are accessible for all children and young people, and for them to gain the life-long habit of reading for pleasure that will improve their life chances. I encourage residents across Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner to get reading and to make use of local libraries across Hillingdon and Harrow.
Lastly, you can find out more about this year’s brilliant selection of books on the website - there are audio, braille and large print versions available so everyone can join in - here.
