I know there are a range of view with regards to the continuing levels of cross channel migration and while we have a duty to protect lives at sea, we must also work to ensure people are not making these treacherous journeys in the first place.
Part of this involves ensuring we have safe and legal routes in to the UK, and I am pleased that the Home Secretary has committed to that, but it also involves working with our European partners to better secure borders.
As part of this I would like to see us work more closely with Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, to ensure we have a more joined up approach.
