This morning, I had a useful catch-up with Chief Superintendent Sara Leach, Borough Commander for North West BCU, covering Harrow as well as Brent and Barnet. The meeting was a good opportunity for me to raise residents’ concerns and to also ask for feedback on the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill from officers. 

An issue I know has come up frequently and is of concern to residents in both the Harrow and Hillingdon wards of the constituency, is catalytic converter thefts. I was pleased to hear that there has been a lot of activity between residents and Safer Neighbourhood Teams to help prevent this type of crime. Chief Superintendent Leach also urged those who have been victims of thefts to report them, as it may help to make future convictions, even if it is not possible to do so at the time. 

I have also spoken with residents about ongoing issues of drug dealing in residential areas, particularly around Pinner. I highlighted this as an issue of concern and questioned what can be done to prevent it. Chief Superintendent Leach was in complete agreement and I am pleased that our offices will continue to work closely together to help clamp down on drug dealing. 

Lastly, it was great to hear such positive feedback on the OWL network, which I was told is a fantastic support to local policing operations. I know this is a thought shared by the West Area BCU and so I must pass on my gratitude to all those involved in making this such a success. 

We both recognise that more needs to be done in order to prevent crimes from taking place, and I will work closely with the local police and Harrow Council to ensure that we are doing as much as possible to make our area as safe as possible.
