I was delighted to join Harrow Mencap to show my support for their Learning Disabilities 'Nurses Not Hearses' campaign, which focuses on why the national shortage of disability nurses needs to be changed. 

Self-advocates and carers at the event each told their own individual story and it was really useful to hear first-hand how they had benefited from access to specialist nursing, as well as how the absence of it affected others.

The campaign advocates the need for at least two learning disability nurses at each NHS trust to help make sure that people get the reasonable adjustments at the hospital they are entitled to, assisting those with learning disabilities and other vulnerable groups. 

It is clear to me that we must ensure everybody can fully access the healthcare they need to help address the health inequality which people with learning disabilities experience.
